Man killed in RV crash on I-95

November 30, 2013.—A fatal crash sparked a small brush fire in a wooded area near I-95 in Volusia County. Sgt. Kim Montes with Florida Highway Patrol told FOX 35 the accident unfolded when the driver of the RV blew a tire while driving north bound on I-95 Saturday afternoon.

The blown tire caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle, so he went off of the road. The RV went into a wooded area on Willow Run Boulevard before crashing into some trees and catching on fire. News Report and Video

Could this 2013 Memorial Day weekend tragedy been avoided?

"Susan Clark was driving the RV and her husband, Steven Clark, was sitting on a couch behind the driver's seat when a front tire blew about 5:45 a.m., causing the oversize vehicle and trailer to veer off I-15 and into the neighborhood below, according to the Utah Highway Patrol." Both died at the scene. News Report and Video.

We may never know if this was preventable. As tragic as this was, this incident is a good reminder of how important it is to check the tires' cold air inflation pressure before traveling each day. Also, routinely perform a visual inspection at each stop along the route to the destination. If you don't have one, consider installing a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
